Find a
Forever Friend
Adopting a pet comes with numerous advantages! You’re saving a life. Millions of healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized every year simply for a lack of a home. When you adopt your pet from a shelter or rescue group, you’re giving a deserving pet a loving home.

What is your adoption process?
If you are interested in adopting one of our puppies or adult dogs, please fill out the application as thoroughly as possible so that we may evaluate if you might be the best candidate for the dog you are applying to adopt. Our goal is to make the perfect match between what the applicant family needs and wants in their new dog and the individual needs of each and every dog.
Applications are evaluated on the best match possible for our dogs and not on a first application basis. Once a dog is listed as PENDING, it is no longer available for applications.
We do not allow adoptions outside of the general Austin area or allow out of state adoptions.
If you are interested in more than one dog, you only need to fill out one application, just list all of the dogs in the “dog you are interested in” field.
When the adoption paperwork is approved and the adoption fee is paid, you will receive copies of the medical records and adoption agreement.

Are there any adoption requirements?
A call to your vet will be done to check on sterilization of your present pets, current vaccinations and monthly heart worm preventative for any dogs you may own.
A home check will be scheduled to check on proper fencing and living conditions for our dog. If you rent, written rental permission must be supplied.
You must be over 21 years of age to adopt and the actual adopter should be the person completing the application.

How do I choose the best pet?
It is the commitment of each of our fosters to find the best home possible for each and every one of their fosters. Some homes may be a better fit than another and we trust our Fosters to make that decision for their dog.
When your application is received, it will be forwarded to the appropriate foster home. All fosters are volunteers and will be answering your applications as soon as time is available
The foster will discuss your needs and their foster’s needs and personality to see if they and you feel their foster may fit into your home. We have found that often an application may not suit the dog that is being applied for, but is just perfect for another. In this case we will refer the applicant to that dog and away from the one for which they placed their application. We will also work with you to find the best dog possible for your needs, limitations and desires!
Each foster can decline, redirect or confirm an adoption. Individual fosters have their own guidelines in different areas for placement of their dogs.

What is the adoption fee?
Forgotten Friends – Mixed Breed Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Our adoption fees start at $350. The adoption fee will include, but not be limited to, a veterinary exam, current vaccinations, fecal test, worming if needed, flea treatment, heart worm test & preventative, neuter or spay and microchip.
If during the first two weeks of the adoption, nothing can be worked out to keep the dog, the adopter will receive one half of their adoption fee returned. If the dog is returned after the two week period, space and/or foster available, the adoption fee is tax deductible.
