Meet Penny! This sweet, two-year-old Blue Heeler mix is looking for a forever family who loves to run and play, but also spend some time cuddling on the couch.

Penny is currently in a foster home with another dog who is close to her age and size, and they get along great! She would love a sibling who can match her play style, but probably wouldn’t mind be an only child, either. The foster also has a cat – while Penny has shown no signs of aggression, she is a herding dog and loves to play chase. A home with a cat would be okay, if the cat is confident with dogs and has a safe place to get away.

Penny has been working on some training with her foster, and is doing wonderful! She is a quick learner, and has also shown some interest in agility. She does get a little excited when seeing new dogs and people (and squirrels), so a family who is familiar with her breed is important. Because of her training and exercise needs, we are looking for a home without young children. Penny is fully housebroken, and is learning to love her crate.

Penny is working on some guarding issues – while it’s not severe and she has no issues with humans, she does like her own space from other dogs when special treats or toys are involved. She also shows some slight reactivity on leash…while it sounds much scarier than it is, she is generally okay (and super friendly) once she meets the dog/person. However, someone who can work on teaching her to be calm and focused on walks is important.

Please be aware that we rarely have information about cat compatibility as most of our foster homes don’t have cats. Adoption decisions are based on the best overall match and not done on a first-come-first-serve basis.
