REX the SWEETIE CHIWEENIE !! He was abandoned by his family and it sounds like he didn’t receive good care in his home. He will require dental cleaning and surgery to remove an overgrown canine tooth that hits the roof of his mouth (when closed) and we are fundraising for it now. Luckily, he has no problems with chewing/eating kibble or treats. So rest assured, he is very healthy and adoptable right now !!
NOTE: Our Rescue is committed to paying his dental expenses. All he needs now is a great forever family who will give him the love and attention that he so deserves.
Update from foster mom (05/21/20):
Rex has gained so much confidence within a few days. He loves to come around to get his head and body rubbed. He also loves to be held and cuddled while we look outside at the greenbelt. I tell him that I will find him his forever family soon. He understands a few basic commands. Oh boy, does he love food and treats! No problem there with his appetite. He loves to spy at the backyard squirrels but he cannot get to them quick enough. Also, he loves leash walks with my dog and he is taking in all the new sights and sounds. He will need more socialization but he is doing so well from day-to-day. This little boy is very sweet and mellow, he sits close by while I work on the computer – he wants to know where I am all the time but he doesn’t have abandonment issues. He doesn’t chew on anything, not even a toy, and hardly sheds. He only barks to “sound the alarm” but doesn’t go crazy barking all the time.
Rex is over his shyness and is zipping around like a young boy should. He is good with other dogs yet would be fine as an only dog. He would do well in a home with or without children but would be best if they are 8 or older in order to be patient & gentle with him. And since he has been through a lot in his short life, an adopter that has time & patience to work on his social skills and basic training would be best.
