After 5 months in foster care, Apache is ready to meet his forever family. Apache landed in a shelter with heartworms, hobbling on 3 legs, and 20 lbs underweight. He has had FHO surgery, completed the fast-kill heartworm treatment, and eaten a lot! Probably about 5 years old, Apache is a friendly, easy going guy (maybe he’ll eye somebody else’s bowl), who is house trained, walks nicely on a leash, and LOVES to go walking. He prefers to have free run of the house, and will emphatically let you know when he needs to go out.
A Rough Collie and German Shepherd mix, Apache is at his optimal weight of 60 lbs. He gets along with the older dogs in his foster home but would prefer it if they would play with him. He likes children and is not particularly interested when we pass a cat watching us walk around the neighborhood.
Apache has learned sit and down, and is really trying to understand why he should “stay’ and not be right by your side. He’s getting it, though. Because of the heartworm treatment and taking it slow with his repaired leg, he hasn’t been able to go to the dog park yet, but he does like to go other places and will soon be able to “load up” without help.
Apache’s adoption fee of $350.00 includes his vet exam, age appropriate vaccinations, worming, monthly heartworm prevention, flea treatment, neuter, and microchip.

Please be aware that we rarely have information on our dogs being good with cats as most of our foster homes don’t have them.
Adoption decisions are based on the best overall match and not done on a first-come-first-serve basis.
